US Vice President JD Vance said that President Donald Trump is thinking about putting taxes (called tariffs) on China because China is buying oil from Russia. However, Trump has not made any final decision yet.
Vance explained this during a Fox News interview on Sunday. He was asked if Trump would treat China the same way he treated India, which recently faced higher tariffs for buying Russian oil.
Last week, Trump doubled the taxes on India’s imports to 50% because of India’s purchases of Russian oil. But Vance said dealing with China is more complicated because the US and China have many other important issues besides the Russia oil problem.
Vance said Trump is still looking at his choices and will decide when the time is right.
The US had first put a 25% tariff on India, but now it added another 25%, making it 50%. These extra tariffs will start on August 27. India has called the US action unfair and unreasonable.
US Vice President on Trump-Putin Meeting and Ukraine Peace
Vance also talked about the upcoming meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said that if Russia and Ukraine try to make a peace deal, it probably won’t make either side very happy.
Vance said both Russia and Ukraine will likely be unhappy with any agreement.
President Trump plans to meet Putin on August 15 in Alaska to try to end the war in Ukraine.
