President Donald Trump lashed out at Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer this week, telling the Democratic senator to “go to hell” amid a dispute over federal nominations.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Schumer’s demand for over $1 billion in federal funds in exchange for advancing a limited number of the administration’s nominees. He urged Senate Republicans to walk away from negotiations entirely.
“Senator Cryin’ Chuck Schumer is demanding over One Billion Dollars in order to approve a small number of our highly qualified nominees, who should right now be helping to run our Country,” Trump wrote. “This demand is egregious and unprecedented, and would be embarrassing to the Republican Party if it were accepted.”
The president further claimed Schumer was caving to “tremendous political pressure from within his own party, the Radical Left Lunatics.”
“Tell Schumer, who is under tremendous political pressure from within his own party, the Radical Left Lunatics, to GO TO HELL! Do not accept the offer, go home and explain to your constituents what bad people the Democrats are, and what a great job the Republicans are doing,” Trump added.

In response, Schumer told reporters that the president’s aggressive tactics failed. “He bullied us, he cajoled us, he called us names, and he went home with nothing,” Schumer said.
After the fiery exchange, the Senate adjourned for its August recess without striking a deal on the nominations. Lawmakers are expected to reconvene in September, with Republicans reportedly considering rule changes to accelerate the confirmation process.
Senate Democrats have repeatedly stalled Trump’s nominees throughout the year by blocking unanimous consent votes. In turn, Trump has placed mounting pressure on GOP lawmakers to counter the delays.
Prior to Saturday’s session, Trump had called on Republicans to cancel the recess if necessary to finalize the confirmations. But following his public rebuke of Schumer, the president instead instructed them to return to their home states.
