Donald Trump has incorporated Taylor Swift’s latest single into a new social media post, sparking widespread attention and criticism.
On Monday, Nov. 3, the White House’s official TikTok account posted a video featuring the 35-year-old singer’s song “The Fate of Ophelia” from her recent album The Life of a Showgirl. The clip, which gathered over 4 million views and 500,000 likes shortly after its release, paired Swift’s lyrics with images of Washington, D.C., the U.S. Army, and photos of Trump, 79, alongside first lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and second lady Usha Vance.
Each visual aligned with specific lyrics, seemingly attempting to link Swift’s words to a narrative about Trump’s political comeback following the 2024 election. The lyric “Don’t care where the hell you been” appeared over Trump’s 2023 mug shot from his indictment for trying to overturn the 2020 election, while “‘Cause now you’re mine” played as an image showed him embracing the American flag.
The final shot depicted Trump at a McDonald’s, paired with the lyric “the fate of Ophelia” and overlaid text reading “the fate of America.” The video was captioned “OUR VIBES.”
Trump’s relationship with Swift has been tense since she endorsed Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential race. Before her endorsement, Trump had circulated AI-generated images of the pop star seemingly showing support for him. In her statement endorsing Harris, Swift called out the spread of misinformation, saying the experience underscored “the dangers of AI” and that “the simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

She wrote, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” adding that she supported Harris “because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” Swift also praised Walz for his advocacy of LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive freedom, and IVF access.
Trump responded on Truth Social, writing, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” He later mocked her after her fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce, lost the 2025 Super Bowl, posting, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the remark during a briefing, explaining, “He is speaking about Taylor Swift’s political views and how perhaps it has impacted the support of the American public for her work.”

By August, however, Trump appeared to ease his criticism following Swift and Kelce’s engagement announcement. During a livestreamed Cabinet meeting, he said, “Well, I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player and a great guy, and I think she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”
