Trump Faces Across-the-Board Negative Approval Ratings for the First Time

President Donald Trump is now registering negative approval ratings with every major pollster for the first time.

As of Wednesday morning, polling averages compiled by The New York Times show 55 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s performance, while 41 percent approve.

Surveys from firms including Morning Consult, Ipsos, HarrisX, Quinnipiac, YouGov, and Pew Research all indicate that more respondents view Trump unfavorably than favorably or disapprove of his job performance.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson, speaking to the Daily Mail about the recent numbers, said that in less than a year, Trump has “already delivered on many of the promises he was elected to enact, but there will always be more to accomplish.”

Newsweek has contacted the White House for additional comment by email outside of regular working hours.

Why the Numbers Matter

Trump has never previously faced a landscape in which every major pollster shows him underwater. If the current data is accurate, it may signal a broader shift in public sentiment across the country.

The downturn in approval comes as the president confronts growing rifts within the Republican Party and among his MAGA base, particularly over issues such as Israel and the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

These dynamics are unfolding ahead of the upcoming midterm elections and the 2028 race, when Trump will be relying heavily on his supporters to help keep Republicans in power.

Key Polling Takeaways

Every poll aggregated by The New York Times—including those that have historically been more favorable to Trump—currently shows him with a negative approval rating.

A recent survey by J.L. Partners, conducted November 19–20 among 1,244 registered voters, found that 49 percent disapproved of Trump, while 41 percent approved. The margin of error was +/- 3.2 percentage points. In the firm’s previous poll in mid-October, Trump’s approval had been at 46 percent.

Other recent polling includes a YouGov survey (fielded November 21–24), which reports a 19-point gap, with 38 percent approval and 57 percent disapproval.

Some pollsters show even wider divides. The American Research Group finds a 27-point margin between Trump’s 35 percent approval and 62 percent disapproval, while other polls place the spread closer to 5 percentage points.

Even Rasmussen Reports—a pollster not included in The New York Times’ aggregation—currently shows Trump in negative territory. Its latest poll, conducted November 12–20 among 3,000 registered voters, reports that 51 percent disapprove of Trump while 46 percent approve, with a margin of error of +/- 1.8 percentage points.

How the White House Is Responding

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told the Daily Mail: “Trump has secured the border; tackled Biden’s inflation crisis; lowered drug prices; ended taxes on tips, overtime, and social security; cooled inflation; deported criminal illegal aliens; implemented important reforms putting American workers first; and more.”
