President Donald Trump kicked off the 2025 Army-Navy football game with a ceremonial coin toss that quickly became a social-media talking point — not because of the result, but because of how he did it.

Trump, 79, attended the Saturday, Dec. 13 matchup at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium — a long-running tradition for sitting presidents — and walked onto the field to take part in the pregame toss for the 126th edition of the rivalry.

“Mr. President, would you do the honor?” a referee asked as he handed Trump the coin in footage from the game.

Instead of flipping it with a traditional snap of the thumb, Trump set the coin in his palm and tossed it upward. The coin appeared to rise and fall with little to no rotation — more of a pop-up than a flip.

The toss came up tails, giving the Army Black Knights the call. Navy Midshipmen ultimately won the game 17–16.

Clips of the moment racked up millions of views online, where football fans and critics piled on with jokes about the president’s form — and whether he’d ever done a coin toss before.

“Trump with one of the worst coin tosses I’ve seen lmao,” one person wrote with the video. Another reposted the clip with a caption: “Me on my first day of coin toss school.”

“I’ve never seen someone screw up flipping a coin until now,” wrote a different user, while another added, “It’s actually possible he doesn’t understand how coin tosses work.”

Others focused on the near-total lack of spin.

“President Trump threw the equivalent of a knuckle ball with his coin toss… no spin at all,” one user posted on X. “Incredible… I don’t know how he pulled that off.”

And for some, the motion looked like it belonged in a completely different game.

One person joked that the toss “probably would have made a fantastic toss in a game of cornhole.” Another compared it to “watching my 10-year-old chuck a bluegill back,” while someone else said the no-spin throw “looked like he was throwing a dead fish.”

Before the game, Trump also weighed in on the matchup in a Truth Social post.

“Getting ready to land at Fort McHenry for my short drive to the Army-Navy Game,” he wrote. “Everyone is asking who am I supporting, Army or Navy? My answer is: ‘You must be joking if you think I’m going to give you that answer!’ ”
