President Donald Trump’s team has expressed serious concern following revelations that a covert UK government unit pressured tech companies to silence critics of migrant housing policies.
The team was reacting to reports that staff under UK Technology Secretary Peter Kyle contacted major social media platforms, requesting the removal of posts that criticized asylum hotels and what was described as “two-tier policing.”
Tech platforms, including TikTok, were reportedly warned that such content was “exacerbating tensions” in the wake of the recent Southport riots.
A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department commented, “President Trump has taken a strong stand defending free speech. We are monitoring developments in the UK closely and with great concern.”
Meanwhile, Peter Kyle faced a backlash after claiming that Nigel Farage was “on the side” of child predators like Jimmy Savile due to his vow to repeal online safety laws.
Kyle stated, “If Jimmy Savile were alive today, he’d be perpetrating his crimes online. And Nigel Farage is saying he’s on their side.”
Farage swiftly condemned the accusation, calling it “disgusting” and demanding a full retraction from the Secretary.
In response to the uproar, Kyle refused to apologize and doubled down on his position, declaring, “If you want to overturn the Online Safety Act, you are on the side of predators. It is as simple as that.”
