Two people are dead after a high-speed street racing crash early Sunday morning on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Montgomery County.

Authorities say the deadly accident occurred near the I-276 ramp in Upper Moreland Township when two vehicles, believed to be racing, lost control and crashed around 3:30 a.m.

Both drivers involved in the alleged street race died at the scene, officials confirmed.

A third vehicle, not involved in the race, crashed into one of the wrecked cars. Two people in that vehicle suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The crash prompted the closure of all eastbound lanes of the Turnpike from the Mid-County Interchange to Bensalem for several hours.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the victims’ families and loved ones during this difficult time.
