A bride’s decision to drastically reduce her wedding guest list just two weeks before the ceremony has sparked widespread anger — especially among close relatives who were suddenly uninvited.
The story surfaced in a Reddit post on the Wedding Shaming forum, where one user described the chaotic situation involving her cousin’s upcoming wedding in Asheville.
“I’m still processing this. Wedding was supposed to be this Saturday,” the post began.
The bride, known for her interest in spiritual practices like crystals and astrology, had recently started consulting a “spiritual advisor” whom she treated as a therapist, life coach, and oracle.
According to the post, everything about the wedding had been “pretty normal” until a sudden turn of events last week. The couple had invited 200 guests, booked a venue, and confirmed catering. “I’m a bridesmaid, so I’ve been somewhat involved in the planning,” the author explained.
Then, two weeks before the wedding, the bridesmaids received a group message calling for an “emergency Zoom meeting.” During the call, the bride revealed that her psychic advised against having more than 80 attendees, warning that “too many guests would disrupt the spiritual alignment of the union and cause energetic blocks in the marriage.”

Following that advice, the couple slashed the guest list to 75 people. Using what the bride called an “energy compatibility chart,” they selected only those who matched their “vibrational frequency.” Everyone else — including many family members — was cut.
Among those uninvited were the groom’s entire extended family except his parents, most of the bride’s coworkers, and about half of the original family guest list. “MY PARENTS, who already bought plane tickets and booked a hotel,” the poster wrote in disbelief.
Guests were informed of the changes via a mass email, sparking confusion and frustration. Some called the couple in tears, while others demanded their gifts back.
“Here’s the kicker — I didn’t get uninvited,” the bridesmaid continued. “But my parents were. I told her I’m not coming if they can’t, and she said that’s my choice — that I’m choosing fear over love. Then she asked if I was still helping set up this week.”
As of the latest update, just four days before the wedding, around 30 people were still planning to attend. The groom appeared “checked out,” his family was furious, and the bride continued sharing posts online about “honoring your truth even when others don’t understand.”
Reddit users didn’t hold back their opinions. One commenter wrote, “She thinks you’ll still want to show up and do free labor after she uninvited your parents? That’s a new level of entitlement.”
Another added, “I’m worried this spiritual advisor is some kind of scam artist who benefits from all this somehow.”
A third simply urged the original poster to stay away — but admitted, “I kind of want you to liveblog it.”
