A two-year-old Georgia boy is in critical condition after being attacked by a swarm of yellowjacket wasps, suffering more than 150 stings and life-threatening internal injuries.

Beckham Reed was riding his electric toy car around his family’s property when he unknowingly disturbed a hidden nest. Within seconds, the aggressive wasps swarmed, covering his body and stinging him relentlessly. His family described the attack as “horrific.”

Initially treated and discharged from a local ER with Benadryl after showing stable breathing, Beckham’s condition rapidly deteriorated the next day. His skin turned yellow, prompting a second hospital visit where doctors diagnosed him with multi-organ failure — his heart, liver, and kidneys were shutting down.

He was urgently transferred to the Pediatric ICU at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where he remains on dialysis, ventilator support, and intensive IV treatment. Yellowjackets are known for their repeated stings and lack of available antivenom, meaning Beckham’s survival depends on sustaining organ function while his body clears the venom.

‘Every Day Has Been a Battle’

Despite initial progress, Beckham has suffered setbacks, including rising kidney toxicity and fluid buildup around his lungs, forcing doctors to restart dialysis and administer blood transfusions.

In a recent update, his family wrote: “We are so thankful for the nurses, doctors and all the staff at Memorial Savannah. They have been so great to Beckham and his parents. His care has been exceptional.” They gave a special thank you to his nurse, Erica, who even returned on her day off to care for him.

Community Rallies Behind Beckham

A GoFundMe campaign launched to help cover medical and living expenses while the family stays in Savannah has raised more than $95,000. Messages of love and support continue pouring in from around the world.

One donor wrote: “Our whole family, even our 3-year-old, is sending love and courage from France to sweet Beckham.” Another added: “As a mother, this story shattered me. I’m praying for Beckham’s recovery and strength for his parents during this nightmare.”

Beckham’s loved ones remain hopeful and ask for continued prayers as he battles to recover from one of nature’s most terrifying encounters.
