A video shows UCLA student Jamie Han swearing at ICE and the Trump administration during her graduation speech. People sitting next to her, who seemed like teachers, nodded in agreement.

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is facing criticism after the video went viral on social media. It shows Jamie Han, UCLA’s valedictorian, using strong language against ICE and the Trump administration during the College of Letters and Science graduation ceremony held from June 13-15, 2025.

Jamie Han, who is a first-generation immigrant and communications graduate, said in her speech, “Education, free speech, and democracy are being threatened by the very groups that say they support them. In this country, immigrants—who are the real backbone of America—are being blamed and treated unfairly.”

She added, “As a first-generation immigrant and now a citizen, I am lucky not to fear for my life every day. As a communication major, I want to tell you how important it is to use your education and your voice.”

Then she said, “Excuse my language, but to that I say, f*** ICE and f*** the Trump administration.” The crowd cheered and applauded while people next to her nodded.

Some people on social media were very upset by her speech. One person said Jamie Han is “a Chinese-American who hates America” and called for her to be deported.

Many commenters criticized UCLA, saying the school should not get taxpayer money if it allows speeches like this. Some blamed the teachers who seemed to agree with her. Others said this kind of speech at graduation is disrespectful.

However, other people defended Jamie Han. They pointed out she is a U.S. citizen and cannot be deported. They also said she has the right to free speech, even if her words are harsh. One user wrote, “She was born here and has the same rights as anyone else.”
