A University of Kentucky student and member of the school’s STUNT team was arrested after police say they discovered her infant’s body in a closet.
Laken Snelling, 21, was taken into custody on Sunday, Aug. 31. She faces charges of abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant, according to a Lexington Police Department (LPD) news release.
Officers responded to a call on Saturday, Aug. 30, about an unresponsive infant at a home in the 400 block of Park Avenue in Lexington, Ky., Lex 18 reported.
Police said Snelling is the child’s mother and admitted to giving birth. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene around 10:30 a.m. local time. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
According to an arrest citation, the infant was found wrapped in a towel inside a black trash bag, Fox 19 Now reported.
Snelling was a member of the university’s competitive STUNT team for three years. She is originally from White Pine, Tenn., and previously attended Jefferson County High School, according to the team’s official roster.
“We can confirm that she has been a member of the STUNT team for the last three seasons. All other questions should be directed to the Lexington Police,” the University of Kentucky said in a statement obtained by The Independent.
