Second Lady Usha Vance has pushed back against speculation that she is divorcing Vice President JD Vance, issuing a statement through a spokesperson on Sunday, November 23.

Rumors gained momentum after Usha was seen without her wedding ring while appearing alongside First Lady Melania Trump during their visit to the Camp Lejeune military training facility in Jacksonville, North Carolina, on November 19. In the statement, her spokesperson explained that the missing ring was simply an oversight.

“[Usha is] a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes,” the spokesperson said.

Usha, 39, and JD, 41, married in 2014 after meeting as students at Yale Law School. Questions about their relationship also flared following a Turning Point USA event last month, where the vice president was seen hugging Erika Kirk, widow of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

“No one will ever replace my husband. But I do see some similarities of my husband in JD — in Vice President JD Vance. I do,” Erika told the crowd during the event, remarks that were widely analyzed on social media.

Erika, 37, also praised Usha for the comfort she offered during her husband’s memorial service.

“She told me, you will get through these 15 minutes and the next 15 minutes after that,” Erika said of their private exchange. “Usha, I don’t think you realized it then, but those words were exactly what I needed to hear.”

The vice president previously drew attention in October when he said publicly that he hoped his wife, who was raised in a Hindu family, would one day convert to his Catholic faith.
