A Washington father headed to work Tuesday morning with a troubling feeling he couldn’t shake. Hours later, he returned home to a heartbreaking discovery: his wife, his adult son and the family dog were all dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Deputy Carly Cappetto, a spokesperson for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, said in a Facebook post that deputies were called just before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, to a home in Vaughn on the Key Peninsula after the man reported finding the three deceased.
Deputies who responded found a woman, her 24-year-old son and a dog inside a bedroom, each with apparent gunshot wounds, according to KING 5, KOMO News and the Tacoma News Tribune.
A firearm was recovered from the bedroom, the outlets reported, citing investigators.

Cappetto said there are no outstanding suspects and that authorities believe the situation is contained to the home.
She added that the couple lived at the residence and had allowed their adult son — who did not live there — to stay overnight on Monday, Jan. 26. Cappetto said the son had been struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.
“When Dad left to work this morning he wasn’t very comfortable with that, and then decided to come home — and unfortunately he came home to his wife and his adult son deceased,” Cappetto told KOMO.
“It’s tragic, not only did this father lose his wife, he lost his son — and [their] family dog, too,” she said, per KING 5.
Authorities said the husband has been cooperative as the investigation continues. Cappetto said additional details will be released as they become available.
