The White House on Monday released additional information about President Donald Trump’s recent MRI, describing the results as “perfectly normal” and part of his routine executive physical.
In a summary from Physician to the President Sean P. Barbabella, officials said Trump underwent advanced cardiovascular and abdominal imaging as a preventive step that is typical for men in his age group.
According to the report, there was no evidence of arterial narrowing, inflammation, clotting, or other abnormalities in the heart, major blood vessels, or abdominal organs. All findings were described as healthy and functioning within normal limits, and Barbabella wrote that the results confirm Trump “remains in excellent overall health.”
The president’s health has drawn particular attention this year, especially after photographs surfaced showing bruising on his right hand in February, July and August.
More recently, Trump pushed back on reports that he has appeared tired, rejecting suggestions that he is slowing down and insisting he had just completed a “perfect physical exam.”
A New York Times article had noted moments when the 79-year-old president appeared to nod off during a White House event earlier in the month, concluding that “his battery shows signs of wear.”
Trump, who in January became the oldest person ever inaugurated as president, frequently questioned Joe Biden’s fitness during their campaign, arguing that his then-81-year-old rival was not mentally or physically capable of serving in the role.
Trump, who often highlights his stamina and energy, answered the Times report on Wednesday with a lengthy Truth Social post forcefully denying that he is fading and labeling the newspaper an “enemy of the people.”
“The Radical Left Lunatics in the soon to fold New York Times did a hit piece on me that I am perhaps losing my Energy, despite facts that show the exact opposite,” he wrote.
He concluded the post by saying: “There will be a day when I run low on Energy, it happens to everyone, but with a PERFECT PHYSICAL EXAM AND A COMPREHENSIVE COGNITIVE TEST (“That was aced”) JUST RECENTLY TAKEN, it certainly is not now! GOD BLESS AMERICA & MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
On Sunday, Trump said he would make his MRI results public.
“If you want to have it released, I’ll release it,” he told reporters while returning to Washington from Florida, again describing the results as “perfect.”
He also claimed he had “no idea” which part of his body was scanned. “It was just an MRI,” he said. “What part of the body? It wasn’t the brain because I took a cognitive test and I aced it.”
When Did Donald Trump Undergo the MRI?
According to the White House, Trump received the MRI in October at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as part of his annual executive physical. Prior to Monday’s memo, officials had only confirmed that the imaging occurred during his fall physical.
Why Did Donald Trump Have an MRI?
The memorandum from the president’s physician described the imaging as a component of a broad health assessment intended to detect potential problems before symptoms appear. Trump has said he did not request any particular test and was not told which part of his body was being imaged.
Physician’s Memo: Trump in ‘Excellent Overall Health’
The memo stated:
“As part of President Donald J. Trump’s comprehensive executive physical, advanced imaging was performed because men in his age group benefit from a thorough evaluation of cardiovascular and abdominal health. The purpose of this imaging is preventive: to identify issues early, confirm overall health, and ensure he maintains long-term vitality and function. President Trump’s cardiovascular imaging is perfectly normal. There is no evidence of arterial narrowing impairing blood flow or abnormalities in the heart or major vessels. The heart chambers are normal in size, the vessel walls appear smooth and healthy, and there are no signs of inflammation, or clotting. Overall, his cardiovascular system shows excellent health. His abdominal imaging is also perfectly normal. All major organs appear very healthy and well-perfused. Everything evaluated is functioning within normal limits with no acute or chronic concerns. SUMMARY: This level of detailed assessment is standard for an executive physical at President Trump’s age and confirms that he remains in excellent overall health.”
Trump’s Chronic Venous Insufficiency Diagnosis
In July, the White House released a separate memo noting that Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a condition his physician described as “benign and common.”
Officials have not given a specific date for the diagnosis, but CVI has appeared in Trump’s medical summaries over the past several years. The condition, which is often linked to aging and frequently managed with conservative treatment, has not been portrayed by his doctors as limiting his day-to-day activities.
While this week’s memorandum did not mention CVI, previous disclosures indicated that it has been monitored as part of his routine care during past physicals. The administration has said the diagnosis does not affect his ability to serve.
