A California woman is recovering from life-threatening injuries after authorities said her husband allegedly doused her in gasoline and set her on fire.

According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, 42-year-old Sean Hofmann was arrested on Friday, Oct. 10, in Porterville, Calif. Investigators allege he poured “a highly flammable accelerant on or near the victim” before igniting it.

Officials said the woman sustained severe burns to her face, arms, and torso. She was airlifted to a hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

A GoFundMe organized by her son identified the victim as Sheena Hofmann.

“Hopefully we raise enough to help with my mom’s bills until she can fully recover,” her son, Michael Post, wrote on the fundraiser page, describing the event as a “horrific domestic violence incident.”

“My mom is currently in Bakersfield Memorial Hospital in the burn unit in intensive care,” he added.

The Tulare County District Attorney’s Office has charged Hofmann with attempted murder, torture, mayhem, arson causing great bodily injury, and domestic violence. The case also includes enhancements alleging that the crimes were violent, caused serious injury, involved a deadly weapon, and were committed while Hofmann was out on bail.

He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment, according to KFSN.

Hofmann is being held without bail in the Tulare County Jail, per jail records.

Post told KSEE that his mother has been placed in a medically induced coma and sustained burns on roughly 25% of her body.

The outlet also reported that Sean and Sheena had recently celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary.
