A Texas woman is facing a felony charge after authorities say she hurled a 25-pound weight plate at another person inside a gym—allegedly because she believed the individual was involved with her partner.
The incident happened at a 24 Hour Fitness in Spring, Texas, according to a press release from the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Office.
“Upon arrival, deputies learned that a female suspect assaulted the complainant inside the gym after recognizing the complainant as someone her partner was involved with,” the press release said.
Authorities allege Aralyn Martinez, 24, threw the weight plate toward the complainant’s head.
A charging document alleges Martinez intentionally and knowingly threatened the complainant with “imminent bodily injury by using and exhibiting a deadly weapon, namely, a 25-pound weight plate” on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
A personal bond/bail order says the confrontation was captured on cell phone video. The order alleges Martinez said, “bitch, I’m going to drop this plate on you” before throwing the plate. KHOU 11 reported that the complainant moved out of the way in time and was not injured.
Precinct 4 Capt. Juan Flores told KHOU 11 that the incident didn’t escalate further because people nearby stepped in.

Although Martinez left the gym after the confrontation, KHOU 11 reported she was arrested the next day. The charging document lists her arrest date as Jan. 7.
Martinez was booked into the Harris County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony. She was later released on a $1,000 bond, according to online records.
An amended order for pretrial supervision and bond conditions states that “facts giving rise to probable cause suggest that alcohol was a factor in the offense.”
Under the bond conditions, Martinez is barred from going within 200 feet of the alleged victim and from returning to the gym where the incident occurred. The order also requires her to submit to drug and alcohol testing by authorized agency personnel.
Her arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22. A request for comment was made to Martinez’s public defender.
