A British woman was shot and killed by her husband after trying to leave their marriage, an inquest revealed on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Lisa Smith, 43, was killed by her husband Edward Smith on Valentine’s Day earlier this year in Kent, England, after telling her sister she was leaving him, according to Sky News, the BBC, and the Independent.

Edward then sent a voice note to someone he called “Nana,” saying, “I’ve shot Lisa, she’s dead,” before jumping from the Queen Elizabeth II bridge in Dartford.

PEOPLE previously reported that Lisa had been fatally shot on Feb. 14 by a suspect believed to be known to her.

Lisa had traveled from her home with her husband in Slough to stay with family in Kent. Edward tracked her down outside a pub and fired four shots at her with a handgun, according to Sky News and The Independent.

The court heard that Edward shot Lisa twice in the neck and once in the chest at the Three Horseshoes in Knockholt’s parking lot after blocking her friend’s car with his, according to Sky News and the BBC.

PEOPLE contacted Kent and Medway Coroner’s Court and Kent Police for comment.

Lisa had been picked up from the train station by her friends and sister before heading to the pub. Her husband arrived just before 7 p.m. after calling Lisa and her friends multiple times.

There was reportedly a “verbal altercation” between Edward and Lisa’s sister, Laura, according to Sky News.

Lisa then left the pub and got into her friend’s car, while Edward blocked the parking lot exit with his vehicle, the BBC reported.

After firing one shot from inside his car, the coroner said, “He pulled forward in the car and fired a second shot, he was seen to exit the vehicle with arms outstretched holding a handgun and firing a shot through the driver’s side car window.”

The third shot hit Lisa’s neck, causing fatal damage. He then fired another shot as he approached the passenger side.

Coroner Katrina Hepburn said, “Four shots were fired, the first two from within his vehicle towards the seat. There were no injuries consistent with the trajectory of those first two bullets,” according to Sky News.

Lisa was pronounced dead at 7:42 p.m., despite CPR efforts from the public and emergency services.

In addition to the voice note to “Nana” saying, “I’ve shot Lisa, she’s dead,” the court heard that Edward also sent another voice note saying, “Hopefully I’m going to get into heaven with my wife,” before jumping from the Queen Elizabeth II bridge in Dartford.

Coroner Hepburn told the court there was “requisite intent from Edward Smith to kill her or cause her really serious harm.”

She added, “I am satisfied on the balance of probabilities that a short form conclusion of unlawful killing would be safe and appropriate to set out in this manner. There was intent to find Lisa Smith after she had left her home address and once she was found the car she was seated in was blocked, preventing any exit.”
