A college student’s story about his “roommate from hell” has gone viral after a food fight between the two ended with her in the emergency room.

In a Reddit post on “Am I the A——?”, the student explained that his 19-year-old roommate constantly ate his food, even though he asked her not to. He wrote that his mom bought him a small car fridge with a lock so he could keep his meals safe, but claimed she picked the lock to get inside.

According to him, when he confronted her, she said she thought the food was “for both of us,” even though he had told her many times that he paid for the food and it was only for him.

After repeated problems, the student said he meal-prepped pad thai for himself, using peanut oil and chopped peanuts. He didn’t make her any, and he didn’t know she had a peanut allergy.

“Later, I found out that she had an allergic reaction and had to go to the ER,” he shared. “Now she has been yelling at me for putting peanuts in my food, something I would eat.”

He said his roommate sent him “50 angry messages” that day, accusing him of putting her life in danger and telling her friends he was a “monster.” Some of them also started messaging him.

The student later updated the post, saying his resident assistant got involved and the university is planning to move him to a new room within a week. Until then, he wrote, “I will be cooking with peanuts all the time and labeling everything I make as ‘Has peanuts.’”

He admitted he felt a little satisfaction from the situation, joking that her hives and rash made her look like “a cartoon character” or “like a witch.”

“For the remaining one week we have together, it’s gonna be fun,” he added. “I am no longer cooking meals for her and putting peanuts in everything. also labeling just in case.”

Though all of the commenters agreed the student was “NTA” (Not the A——?), many said this was a dangerous situation because she never told him about her allergy and he never gave her the food.

“You weren’t trying to poison her. You were cooking for yourself,” one person wrote. “Some people have serious enough peanut allergies that they can literally pass out from smelling them. This was a ticking time bomb, and she easily could have just passed out in a locked dorm room.”
