A woman bought concert tickets to see her favorite artist, but her boyfriend told her not to go.
In a Reddit post, she explained that she and her boyfriend have been together for a year. When the musician she loves announced a tour a few months ago, she “immediately bought a ticket.” At first, her boyfriend “seemed okay with it,” but later he changed his mind.
“The problem is, the artist has a very passionate fanbase, and he has always been oddly jealous of him, saying the lyrics are ‘inappropriate’ and that guys only listen to him to hit on girls,” she wrote.
The week of the concert, her boyfriend asked her not to go, saying it “made him uncomfortable” and that “he had a bad feeling about it.”
“He wanted me to sell the ticket. I told him I’d spent a lot of money on it and that I’ve been a fan for years, so I was going to go. I even offered to call him during the show to check in, but he said that wasn’t the point,” she shared.

She decided to go to the concert with her group of girlfriends. She “had a great time” and posted pictures on social media. When she returned home, her boyfriend was “furious,” didn’t talk to her, and slept on the couch.
“This morning, he said I completely disrespected his feelings and chose a ‘stupid concert’ over our relationship. He says I broke his trust by going when he explicitly said it made him uncomfortable.”
The woman says she feels “guilty” that he’s upset but believes she “should be allowed to enjoy things I like.”
“It was just a concert with my friends; I wasn’t doing anything wrong. He’s making it seem like I betrayed him,” she wrote, asking Redditors if she was in the wrong.
People in the comments supported her, saying her boyfriend was being immature.
“It just screams immaturity, doesn’t it? The guy is trying to ruin his partner’s night at their favorite artist’s concert by throwing a fit, refusing to communicate, sleeping in a different room, and then guilt-tripping them about it the next day,” one person wrote. “If he wanted to talk about it, he could have done so nicely over breakfast.”
Another person added, “The truth is you went to a concert with your friends and enjoyed music you have loved for years. That is not a betrayal. A relationship shouldn’t mean giving up parts of yourself just to ease someone else’s jealousy.”
