A woman turned to Reddit for support after years of uncomfortable encounters with her husband’s best friend finally reached a breaking point.
She wrote that she has been married to her husband, Evan, for six years, and that his best friend, Connor, has been part of their lives since their college days.
From the very beginning, Connor’s behavior made her uneasy. “Since the beginning of my relationship with Evan, he’s made these ‘jokes’ that feel like more than jokes,” she explained. Connor would say things like, “If Evan ever messes up, I’m next in line,” but only when Evan was out of earshot.
She said she repeatedly tried to make her husband understand how unsettling these remarks felt. “I’ve told Evan about it multiple times over the years,” she shared, but he brushed it off, insisting that Connor was “just like that” and accusing her of “reading into things.”
Over time, the comments continued and became harder for her to ignore. She recalled Connor saying things like, “You sure you picked the right best friend?” and “Evan doesn’t deserve you,” always with a laugh — but with a look that, as she described it, “made my skin crawl.”
The situation eventually came to a head during a recent dinner at Connor’s home. Evan stepped away to use the bathroom, and Connor’s wife, Diane, was in the kitchen preparing dessert, leaving the two of them alone.
That’s when Connor allegedly leaned in and made the comment that pushed her over the edge: “You look incredible tonight. Evan’s a lucky guy. If you ever get bored of him, you know where to find me,” he said, according to her post.
She said something inside her “snapped,” and she decided she wasn’t going to stay quiet anymore. “I said… ‘Connor, I need you to stop making comments like that. It’s inappropriate. It’s been inappropriate for six years,’ ” she recalled, adding that she told him his behavior was “disgusting.” She raised her voice enough that Diane could hear.
Diane quickly entered the room, but the situation escalated. Before the poster could explain, she said Connor told his wife that she had “gone crazy” and was accusing him of things he “didn’t say.”

According to the woman, Diane became upset and started crying, claiming she had “humiliated” Connor in his own home. By the time Evan returned, emotions were already high, and the poster said she felt shaken while Connor acted like the wronged party.
The conflict continued on the drive home. “In the car Evan was furious. At ME,” she wrote. He accused her of embarrassing him and causing unnecessary drama.
She reminded him that she had spent six years telling him privately about Connor’s comments, but nothing ever changed. “What exactly was I supposed to do?” she asked.
According to her account, Evan then demanded that she apologize to both Connor and Diane to smooth things over. He insisted that Connor “probably didn’t mean it that way” and that she had “overreacted,” a claim she firmly rejected.

“I’m not apologizing for finally defending myself,” she wrote, asking Reddit whether she was wrong for speaking up.
Commenters overwhelmingly took her side. One wrote, “NTA. You have a HUGE husband problem!!! Why tf is he ok with anyone sexually harassing you????”
Another urged her to reconsider the relationship entirely, saying, “Leave the whole husband because he’s enabling his friend’s behavior.”
