A woman in her 40s says people often assume she’s much younger — sometimes by more than a decade — and while she enjoys the surprise reactions, she admits it can come with a bit of pressure.
“People are often saying they can’t believe [my age], and they think I’m 10 or 15 years younger,” Jessica Jerrard said, per SWNS.
Jerrard, a former model who now works in cybersecurity, said the mistaken-age moments happen most at social events. On work nights out, she says people assume she’s the same age as her colleagues — and “they get a bit freaked out” when she tells them how old she is.
She also claims she still gets attention from younger men, including guys in their 20s, and that she’ll “sometimes get ID’d” while “buying some wine or a vape.”
“I’ve had it in the last five years. It is nice when you do,” she admitted.
Looking back, Jerrard said her perspective on age has shifted over time.
“When I was younger, I thought 40 was really old,” she said, adding that while “it does feel good” when people think she’s younger, there can also be “a pressure.”

The habits she says helped — and the ones she regrets
Jerrard credits her appearance partly to staying active, but she also says she’s made major changes to her skincare routine over the years — including stepping away from things she now believes can backfire.
One of her biggest takeaways: fillers can go too far.
“When lip fillers started getting popular 15 years ago, I think it was about getting bigger lips, and you want more and more, but I think it just does make you look older,” she said. Jerrard claimed she once got her lips done nearly every month and described it as something that can become “like an addiction,” adding that filler can migrate into other areas of the face — and that it’s “not what I recommend.”
She also pointed to tanning as another regret, saying she was heavily into it when she was younger despite warnings.

“I used to really be into tanning when I was younger, and I was always told how bad they were, but in the past five years, I’ve noticed the texture of my skin not looking as good as it used to,” she explained.
After trying “loads of things,” including “micro-needling,” she said she now puts more of her skincare budget into facials — something she wants to keep up long-term.
And when it comes to the one product she says made the biggest difference, Jerrard credits “a Tretinoin prescription cream.”
“It’s made a huge difference,” she said.
