A woman says she’s being blamed for “abandoning” her sister after refusing to let her move in again — even though her sister has been evicted multiple times in recent years.
In a post on Reddit, the woman explained that her 29-year-old sister was recently evicted for the third time in four years. This time, she said, the eviction stemmed from a lease violation: her sister reportedly kept six cats in an apartment that allowed a maximum of two pets. The landlord discovered the issue during an inspection, and the woman claims the unit was left in terrible condition and “smelled like actual hell.”
Not long after, her sister called with what the poster described as an announcement rather than a request: she was moving in with the woman and her partner.
The demands didn’t stop there. According to the post, the sister also expected the couple to cover her cats’ food, her phone bill, and gas — and to give up one of their two parking spaces for her car. She also allegedly insisted the couple would need to “get rid” of their dog because her cats “don’t like dogs.”
The woman said she refused, telling her sister she needed to rehome some of the cats, find work, and secure housing she could actually afford. The sister, she wrote, “lost her mind,” accusing her of being a “terrible sister” and claiming she would be homeless because of the refusal.

The conflict then spilled onto social media. The poster said her sister began posting on Facebook calling her heartless, tagging her, and even messaging her friends in an effort to turn people against her.
Their mother has also gotten involved, the woman wrote, urging her to take her sister in “for a few months” so she could “get back on her feet.” But the poster said she’s heard that promise before — and it didn’t end well.
She explained that the last time she allowed her sister to stay, it stretched to more than eight months. During that time, she said her sister contributed nothing financially, used their food and utilities, and left the home in such poor condition that it took weeks to remove the smell after she finally moved out.

Frustrated, the woman asked Reddit users why she’s expected to solve problems her sister continues to create.
Commenters largely backed her decision. One wrote that if their mother truly believes “family is supposed to help each other,” then she should open her own home instead. Another urged the woman to stand firm, pointing out that her sister expected her to give up her own pet so she could move in with the same animals that contributed to her eviction — while continuing to rely on family to shield her from consequences.
