Woman Says Boyfriend’s Mom Is ‘Doing Everything She Can to Break Us Up’ After 3-Day Visit

A woman on Reddit says meeting her boyfriend’s mother turned out to be a “big mistake.”

In her post, the 25-year-old explained that she and her boyfriend had been dating “for a little over 4 months” when they decided it was time to meet his mom. Things seemed fine at first during the three-day visit, aside from his mother giving unsolicited advice about what she “shouldn’t buy.”

But after the visit, the tone shifted dramatically. The woman claims her boyfriend’s mom began calling her “ugly,” “too old” (despite being only two years older than him), a “junkie,” and a “prostitute.” She allegedly told her son that his girlfriend was “not on his level” and pushed him toward another girl from a wealthy family whom she felt was a “better fit.”

According to the post, the mother also warned her son that if he stayed in the relationship, he would end up poor, lose his inheritance, and face rejection from the rest of the family.

Now, the woman says the mother is actively trying to break them apart. What hurt most, she added, was her boyfriend’s silence when his mother insulted her. “I understand he’s very close to his mom and doesn’t want to fight, but it made me wonder if he agreed with her,” she wrote. “I wanted to build OUR life together — not fight for approval in someone else’s family.”

Many commenters on Reddit urged her to pay close attention to her boyfriend’s response, with one person writing, “He showed you really early who he is. Believe him.” Another added, “He stayed silent [while she abused] you. Kick him out.”
