A woman says her husband recently stunned her with an unexpected statement — that his mother will “inevitably” move in with them one day.
Sharing her story on Reddit, she explained that the couple had always been in “fairly full agreement” that his mother is difficult to be around.
“Just recently I was in the car with my husband and he made a comment like, ‘I mean we both know eventually my Mother will end up moving in with us,’” she wrote. “Record scratch. I say, WHAT? WTF are you talking about?!”

According to her post, her mother-in-law has been telling her son for months that she’s “getting older” and experiencing memory issues. She has also discussed selling her house, joking that once it’s gone, she might just “pitch a tent up in our backyard.”
The woman admitted she was ready to draw a hard line: “I legitimately want to tell him that if she starts moving in, he better start the process of moving out.”
She also described the situation as feeling like “a betrayal” that her husband would even entertain the idea. “Is the pressure just going to continue to increase? What do I do??” she asked.
Many Reddit users urged her to stand her ground.
“If your MIL moves in, your family and your marriage will be stressed to the max,” one commenter warned.
Another added, “‘If she moves in, we divorce.’ End of topic. Get your ducks in a row and wait for the day you have to serve him, because momma’s boy wants mommy.”
