A quick trip to the grocery store turned life-changing for a Pennsylvania woman.
Debbie Truckermiller was shopping at the Giant grocery store in Exeter Township on Nov. 1 when she bought a Powerball ticket that ended up winning $1 million, according to a Pennsylvania Lottery news release.
Truckermiller said she plays Powerball from time to time, and on the night she bought her ticket, the jackpot stood at an estimated annuity of $400 million, or $190.7 million in cash.
She didn’t realize she had won until two days later. While washing dishes at home, she suddenly remembered to check her ticket.
“I saw something on Facebook that our local TV station had posted and thought, ‘Oh, I should check my ticket!’” Truckermiller recalled. “I immediately yelled for my husband! I was jumping up and down and he kept saying, ‘Give me a minute, let me find my glasses.’”

Her ticket matched all five white balls drawn — 2-26-43-44-62 — but missed the red Powerball 22, earning her the $1 million prize.
After confirming the win, Truckermiller and her husband shared the news with their two adult children and told them that part of the money will go toward helping pay off student loans.
She added that they also plan to use the winnings to “do some renovations, vacation, and invest.” Travel and live events are high on their list of priorities: “We love to travel and go to sporting events. Our favorite football team is the Eagles, of course!”
“On behalf of the Pennsylvania Lottery, we’re thrilled to celebrate Debbie’s win,” Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko said in a statement. “During the season of giving, we’re proud to see how Lottery proceeds help provide meals, transportation, and essential services for seniors.”
The Giant store where Truckermiller purchased the ticket will also share in the good fortune, receiving a $5,000 bonus from the lottery.
