A bride-to-be is facing a tense situation with her future mother-in-law over her wedding dress choice.
In a post on Reddit’s “Am I the A——?” forum, the woman shared that her future mother-in-law called her “selfish” after she refused to wear her old wedding dress for the upcoming wedding.
“Mother-in-law and father-in-law had always wanted whoever their [25-year-old] son married to wear the mother-in-law’s dress,” the bride explained. The issue, she said, is that her future mother-in-law’s dress is a U.S. size 4, while she wears a size 16.

“When it came time to give a definite answer, I told my mother-in-law, ‘I can’t wear the dress because of our size differences,’ ” she said. “She told me I can wear it, I just have to either lose weight or alter the dress. I told her no. She called me ‘selfish.’ ”
Tensions have grown between the bride and her in-laws, as her father-in-law supports his wife, while her fiancé sides with her.
“Am I the a——?” she asked on Reddit.
Most readers sided with the bride, saying the mother-in-law was “unreasonable” and “rude.”
One reader commented, “Your mother-in-law is absolutely unreasonable to think a size 4 dress can be made over to a size 16. I remain just jaw-unhinged [and] flabbergasted that she had the audacity to suggest that you even try to lose enough weight to go from a size 16 to 4! That is just … incredibly incredibly RUDE!!!”

Another person called the mother-in-law’s wedding dress request “really creepy.”
“If the bride asks to wear the dress, that’s one thing. Hoping your own daughter will want to wear your wedding dress is understandable. Expecting your daughter-in-law to wear your wedding dress, that’s weird,” they wrote.
A third reader added, “It’s your wedding and not a sequel of theirs; you should be able to choose your own dress.”
