“Write a Very Big Check”: Trump Reportedly Strips Kristi Noem of Free Mar-a-Lago Membership Following DHS Ouster

President Donald Trump has reportedly revoked Kristi Noem’s complimentary membership to his Mar-a-Lago club, signaling a definitive fracture in their once-impenetrable political alliance. The move follows Noem’s abrupt dismissal as Secretary of Homeland Security earlier this month.

Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the former South Dakota governor no longer enjoys the “inner circle” perks traditionally afforded to top-tier Cabinet officials. According to reports first surfaced by industry insider Rob Shuter, Noem must now pay a $1 million initiation fee and roughly $20,000 in annual dues if she wishes to maintain access to the Palm Beach estate.

A Rapid Fall from Grace

The loss of club privileges underscores a broader exile for Noem, 54, who was once considered a leading contender for the vice presidency. On March 5, Trump replaced Noem with Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin following a turbulent 13-month tenure at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

While Trump publicly praised Noem’s “spectacular results” on Truth Social, the reality behind the scenes was far more contentious. Her departure was precipitated by a series of administrative and political crises:

  • The $220 Million Ad Scandal: Noem faced bipartisan scrutiny over a taxpayer-funded advertising campaign that featured her prominently on horseback. While she testified that Trump personally approved the expenditure, the President later told reporters he “never knew anything about it.”
  • The Minneapolis Tragedy: The deaths of two U.S. citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, during immigration enforcement operations in Minneapolis sparked nationwide protests and a partial government shutdown.
  • Internal Turmoil: Reports of a personal relationship between Noem and senior advisor Corey Lewandowski allegedly created friction within the West Wing, leading to accusations of department-wide micromanagement.

The Consolation Prize: “Shield of the Americas”

Though ousted from the Cabinet, Noem remains in the administration in a diminished capacity as the Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas. The newly created role focuses on a security initiative in the Western Hemisphere, working alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

However, Palm Beach insiders suggest the diplomatic title carries little weight at the velvet rope. “Once you’re out of the inner circle, those privileges disappear pretty quickly,” one source noted.

Noem, who reportedly believed she was one of Trump’s most loyal allies, was said to be “completely blindsided” by the swiftness of her removal and the subsequent loss of her Mar-a-Lago status. As the Senate prepares to confirm Mullin as her successor, Noem’s transition from a MAGA powerhouse to a paying guest reflects the high cost of falling out of favor in the current administration.
