Young Mom Charged After Officers Find Baby Dead in Apartment Closet: NYPD

A New York City woman is facing criminal charges after police say her 1-month-old baby was found dead inside a closet in a Brooklyn apartment.

Police responded to a wellness check on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7:36 p.m. at 209 Veronica Place, the NYPD said in a statement. Officers said they located a 1-month-old girl who was unconscious and unresponsive.

According to ABC 7 New York, NBC New York and the New York Daily News, the infant was found inside a duffel bag in a closet.

Emergency responders arrived and pronounced the baby dead at the scene. The outlets identified the infant as Adonnys Kendall.

On Sunday, Jan. 25, police arrested 25-year-old Gynae Kendall and charged her with concealment of a human corpse, according to the NYPD. ABC7 and the New York Daily News reported that Kendall is the child’s mother.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to determine the cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.

It was not immediately clear whether Kendall has an attorney who can comment on her behalf.
