1 Person Killed, Another Injured in Halloween Night Shooting in California

A Halloween party in Santa Clarita, California, ended in tragedy when gunfire erupted, leaving one man dead and another critically injured.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 11:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, at a home in the Newhall neighborhood — approximately 30 miles north of Los Angeles. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso.

One victim, a man in his 30s whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a 27-year-old man, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Authorities said the violence began after a fight broke out during the Halloween celebration. Video shared by local outlets including ABC 7 and KTLA showed emergency responders aiding the injured as distressed guests exited the residence.

Investigators believe two adult male suspects fled the area on foot. Their direction of travel remains unknown, and no arrests had been made as of Sunday, Nov. 2.
