A 13-year-old girl in Texas managed to escape a kidnapping attempt after she bit a man who allegedly grabbed her from behind, according to police.
The Galveston Police Department said that around 6:58 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 27, officers were called to Central Middle School following reports that a student had been “approached and grabbed by an unknown man” while walking to school. The department shared details in a statement on Facebook.
According to police, the teenager was on her way to school from her family’s East End apartment when she “heard footsteps approaching from behind, near the 900 block of 28th Street.” When the man allegedly tried to grab her, the girl fought back — biting the suspect twice before breaking free and running to Central Middle School for help.

“The student reported that a man grabbed her from behind. After a brief struggle, during which the young victim bit the assailant twice, she managed to break free and ran directly to Central Middle School,” the police statement read. The girl was not physically injured during the incident, and teachers immediately contacted law enforcement after hearing her account.
Authorities issued an alert to local medical facilities, asking them to notify police if anyone sought treatment for bite-related injuries. The student’s parents accompanied officers to their apartment and helped retrace her route to pinpoint where the encounter took place.

Investigators later reviewed security footage from a business in the 1000 block of 24th Street that showed the girl walking through the area, followed shortly by a man on the same path. Police described the suspect as a White or Hispanic male wearing a black short-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and a ski mask.
Authorities are asking the public to help identify the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Galveston Police Department.
