A 14-year-old girl in Mexico has died after allegedly undergoing an unauthorised breast augmentation surgery — a procedure her father says he only learned about after her funeral.
According to a report by The Sun, the teenager, identified as Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo, died on September 20, just a week after the operation. Her death certificate listed the cause of death as cerebral edema caused by a respiratory illness. However, her father, Carlos Arellano, insists the cosmetic procedure was to blame.
“Her death certificate falsely stated ‘illness’ as the cause of death in an attempt to cover up the truth,” Carlos said.
He explained that it wasn’t until the funeral that he realized his daughter had undergone surgery, after noticing scars and breast implants. He also questioned how quickly officials issued the death certificate.
“They gave it to us right away. I don’t know how they did it so quickly,” he added.
Carlos has since filed a formal complaint, demanding accountability. “I demand that all those responsible be investigated,” he said.
Authorities in Mexico have confirmed they are investigating Paloma’s death and the circumstances of the alleged operation. It remains unclear where or under what conditions the procedure was performed.
This tragedy follows another case earlier this year, when a 31-year-old influencer died in Istanbul after multiple cosmetic surgeries. Ana Barbara Buhr Buldrini passed away in June after undergoing a breast augmentation, liposuction, and a nose job. According to Tusa Hospital, she suffered “an unexpected complication” during recovery that caused ventricular fibrillation, followed by cardiac arrest.
