Two adults were killed and seven children were injured in an ATV accident at a park in Alabama.

The crash happened on Saturday, Aug. 30, when two ATVs carrying a total of 11 people collided on a trail at Indian Mountain ATV Park in Piedmont, the Cherokee County Alabama Sheriff’s Office (CCASO) said in a news release.

One victim died at the scene, while the other passed away after being airlifted to a hospital. Three other people were flown to nearby hospitals, and four more were taken by ambulance, according to police.

The children involved were between the ages of 1 and 12, authorities said.

In a statement to AL.com, Coroner Paul McDonald said, “Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones and with those who were injured. Please continue to lift these families and all first responders in your prayers.”

The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office did not respond to PEOPLE‘s request for comment on Sunday, Aug. 31.

According to CCASO, nine people were inside one ATV, while the other had two passengers. After the collision, the ATV carrying the larger group kept moving for about 150 feet before it rolled over and struck a tree. The two people in the second ATV were not hurt, authorities said.

AL.com reported that the two victims who died are believed to be a husband and wife. Their names have not yet been released.

The emergency call about the accident came in around 3:45 p.m. local time. A CCASO sheriff told AL.com that it was difficult for responders to reach the area because “some of those trails are up the side of Indian Mountain.”

Spring Garden Fire, Floyd EMS, Piedmont Rescue and Cherokee County EMA also helped at the scene.

Indian Mountain ATV Park is a large, private off-road park located in the Appalachian Mountain range. According to its website, the park covers 4,700 acres and offers off-highway vehicle riding, camping, fishing, and hiking.
