Two toddlers in Texas have died after police were alerted to the possible drowning of two young girls at a home in Katy.

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said deputies responded to a residence in the 21000 block of Creek Edge Ct. regarding the potential drowning of two female toddlers, believed to be about 2 and 3 years old. Gonzalez said their condition was initially unknown and a LifeFlight was requested.

About four hours later, Gonzalez reported that both children had died.

“I am saddened to share that both toddlers were pronounced deceased at the hospital despite lifesaving efforts,” he wrote, calling it a “devastating loss for the family and our community.” He also asked the public to keep those affected — including the family and first responders — in their thoughts and prayers.

According to KTRK-TV, authorities said a woman called 911 screaming that two children had drowned in a pool. When deputies arrived, they found EMS performing life-saving measures. The sheriff’s office said the toddlers lived at the home with their mother and grandparents, the outlet reported.

KTRK-TV also reported that preliminary information indicates the children’s grandmother returned from grocery shopping and saw the girls in the pool. She and other family members, along with neighbors, tried to pull them out.

Gonzalez said the investigation is ongoing. KTRK-TV reported that the homicide and crime scene units are handling the case.
