A 22-year-old woman was shot and killed in what authorities describe as an “ambush”-style attack in Northridge, Los Angeles.

Singer Maria De La Rosa, who performed under the stage name DELAROSA, was identified as one of three people shot in the incident, which took place early Saturday, Nov. 22, according to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Around 1:25 a.m. local time, officers responded to reports of gunfire near Bryant Street, just east of Tampa Avenue in Northridge.

Witnesses told investigators that two male suspects approached a vehicle parked on Bryant Street and fired multiple rounds into it, the press release stated.

De La Rosa was struck by gunfire and later died from her injuries at a nearby hospital, police said. The two other victims remained in critical condition as of Saturday morning, per KTLA.

No arrests have been made, and investigators have not yet determined a motive.

In her final Instagram post on Oct. 30, De La Rosa teased new music, writing in Spanish: “Ocupada cocinando en el Stu 🎶👩🏻‍🍳no me llames 🪄🪞🐩 Ya es tiempo… GAME TIME BABY,” which translates to “Busy cooking in the studio, don’t call me. It’s about that time.”

She released her last single, “No Me Llames,” in August.

Following news of her death, tributes to the rising artist flooded social media. A woman named Deyanira De La Rosa, who appears to be a relative of Maria, reshared several heartfelt messages on the late singer’s Instagram Stories.

In one tribute, Devin Christiansen wrote that he met De La Rosa at a gym “about 9-10 years ago” when he “had absolutely nothing,” and that she recognized his potential and helped him connect with an agency that launched his career.

“I couldn’t be thankful enough to have met her at a time when I was at my lowest,” he wrote.

Christiansen said he later learned that the young woman killed in the nearby shooting was Maria, Deyanira’s daughter. “I am truly sorry for your loss. God has received an angel. I remember how much you would talk about her future and how proud of her you were,” he continued, asking others to pray for the family as they navigate “this type of loss and pain.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Operations Valley Bureau Homicide, Detective Simonyan or Detective Lopez, at (818) 374-9550.
