Three teenagers lost their lives and another was critically injured after a car crash in Warrington Township, Pennsylvania, on Halloween night.
The collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, near the former Fox Acute Center on Bristol Road, according to a statement from the Warrington Township Police Department.
Preliminary findings suggest that the sedan, a Toyota Camry, was traveling eastbound when the driver appeared to lose control as the vehicle approached a downward crest on the narrow roadway. The Camry then reportedly crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a Ford Explorer traveling in the opposite direction. Four teens were inside the Camry, while the Explorer carried only the driver.
In an update shared the next day, police confirmed that three of the teens in the sedan had died. They were identified as 15-year-old driver Elkhan Saparbekov, 16-year-old passenger Kozyrev Artem, and 18-year-old Aziz Umidovich Amonov of Feasterville/Trevose.
A GoFundMe for Saparbekov’s family had raised over $17,000 as of Monday, Nov. 3, while more than $20,000 had been collected for Artem’s family. The Blazers Youth Ice Hockey organization, where Artem once played, shared a heartfelt message on Facebook:
“He was a wonderful young man, a great teammate, and part of our hockey family. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”
According to the Bucks County Courier Times and CBS affiliate KYW-TV, two of the teens who died were students at Neshaminy High School — the 15-year-old was a freshman, and the 18-year-old a senior.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the students, as well as to everyone in our school community who is mourning the loss,” school officials said in a statement reported by Patch.com.
The fourth teen, a 14-year-old boy, was hospitalized in Philadelphia following surgery on Sunday, Nov. 2. Police said he remains in intensive care after initially being listed in “extremely critical condition.”
The driver of the Ford Explorer was not injured. Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
“This is a heartbreaking and tragic situation,” authorities said in their statement. “Our hearts and prayers are with the families and friends of those involved during this unimaginable time.”
