Brandi Glanville is facing intense criticism after sharing a controversial “beauty hack” on TikTok that raised concerns among fans and followers.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, who has been open about her ongoing battle with facial disfigurement, posted a video on Sunday, August 3, revealing that she applied Nair — a depilatory cream — to her face. The 52-year-old claimed the method was a cheaper alternative to pills and laser treatments.

“Good news, you guys don’t have to spend a lot of money on pills and lasers anymore, because I decided to put Nair on my face,” Glanville said in the video. She explained that when her face is exfoliated, it angers what she believes to be a facial parasite — a theory she’s repeatedly shared in recent months to explain her skin condition.

According to Glanville, applying Nair caused the alleged parasite to shift away from the treated area. “Nair is the fountain of youth. I figured it out,” she said, before admitting, “But I overdid it.” In the caption, she added that she should have removed the product sooner: “’cause I’m in some pain.”

“Beauty hacks (this is a good one but do a test patch) I did 7 minutes and I’m on fire sooooioko don’t to 7 minutes,” she wrote. She also claimed the same product “burned the loose skin off my arms.”

The video quickly drew alarm from viewers, many of whom urged her to seek medical attention. “Chemical burn? I would go to ER,” one user commented. Another warned, “Please do NOT put Nair on your face!!”

A representative for Nair did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. According to the brand’s official website, some of its products are formulated for facial use, but emphasize the importance of performing a patch test first. Glanville did not specify which version of the product she used.

The Nair website advises: “Always do a patch test before using hair removal cream, even if you’ve used it successfully before. Body chemistry is always changing, and reactions can change with time. If the patch test is all clear, then you can go ahead and remove your unwanted facial hair with Nair™.”

According to Healthline, even when used as directed, products like Nair can still result in chemical burns. The active ingredients, such as calcium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide, are designed to break down hair but can also irritate or burn skin. If a burn turns yellow, blisters, or oozes, medical professionals recommend contacting a doctor immediately as these may be signs of a serious infection.

Glanville has been publicly documenting her health issues since 2023, when she was diagnosed with stress-induced angioedema — a condition that led to severe facial swelling.

In a 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Glanville shared her belief that she contracted a parasite while filming Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip in Morocco. “We had food sitting out for hours on end, and some of it was meat,” she told ET, adding that symptoms began in July 2023, roughly six months after returning from the trip.
