A Tennessee man has been accused of raping a woman outside a Nashville church as she slipped in and out of consciousness — just before she died.
Police say Mohamed Mohamed, 39, has been charged with four counts of rape after allegedly attacking an unconscious woman near the steps of a church on Nolensville Pike in the Woodbine neighborhood on Thursday evening, according to a press release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 14, a Fire Department crew driving along Nolensville Pike reported seeing the assault. They said Mohamed was trying to pull the woman’s pants up when they stopped to intervene.
Surveillance video shows the woman, still unidentified, appearing intoxicated, stumbling, and then sitting down on the church steps. Police say Mohamed came up to her, sat next to her, and started touching her while she faded in and out of consciousness, trying weakly to push him away.
Investigators say Mohamed then picked her up, placed her on the ground, and “repeatedly sexually assaulted her.”
The woman was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died shortly after arriving. She carried no identification, and police are working to identify her through fingerprints. An autopsy is pending.
The fire crew held Mohamed until police arrived, and he was taken to police headquarters. Authorities said he refused to answer questions. A judicial commissioner later set his bond at $300,000.
It is not yet known if Mohamed has entered a plea or hired an attorney. He is currently being held at the Davidson County Male Correctional Development Center, according to jail records.
