Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) is pushing back against President Trump after the commander in chief claimed Moore privately called him “the greatest president of my lifetime.”
Speaking to reporters from the Oval Office on Monday, Trump recalled a meeting with Moore at the Army-Navy football game in December. According to Trump, Moore hugged him, shook his hand, and said, “You’re the greatest president of my lifetime.”
Trump told reporters he had asked Moore to say it publicly, though he “understood he couldn’t.”
Moore was quick to respond on social platform X, simply posting “lol” alongside a video of Trump recounting the story. He later added, “Keep telling yourself that, Mr. President.”
The two leaders have been in an escalating feud since Trump threatened to send National Guard troops into Baltimore, as he has already done in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.
Moore criticized the move in a recent speech, urging Trump to “walk our streets and not just talk about us from the Oval Office.”
Trump hit back on Truth Social Sunday, writing:
“I assume he is talking about out of control, crime ridden, Baltimore? As President, I would much prefer that he clean up this Crime disaster before I go there for a ‘walk.’”
In the same post, Trump slammed Baltimore’s crime rates and even threatened to reconsider federal funding for rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which was destroyed last year when a cargo ship struck it.
Moore has repeatedly countered Trump’s narrative, pointing out that Baltimore’s murder rate has dropped to historic lows under his leadership.
The back-and-forth has also extended to Moore’s military service record, with the governor accusing Trump of trying to deflect attention from the controversy surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein files.
