While flying home from Israel aboard Air Force One on October 13, President Donald Trump took a moment to praise his press secretary, Karoline Leavitt — and drew attention to her appearance in the process.
Speaking to reporters about international diplomacy, the 79-year-old president suddenly shifted the conversation toward Leavitt, 28, who stood nearby.
“How’s Karoline doing? Is she doing good?” Trump asked. “Should Karoline be replaced?”
When reporters responded supportively, he assured them that such a change would “never happen.” Then, as another question began, Trump added, “That face… and those lips, they move like a machine gun.”
This wasn’t the first time Trump commented on Leavitt’s looks. In an August interview with Newsmax, he again praised both her performance and appearance.
“She’s become a star,” he said during the segment. “It’s that face, it’s that brain, it’s those lips — the way they move, they move like she’s a machine gun.” Smiling, he asked if she was in the room. When told she was, he added, “She’s a star, and she’s great. I don’t think anybody has ever had a better press secretary than Karoline. She’s been amazing.”

Leavitt, the youngest White House press secretary in U.S. history, first worked for Trump during his previous administration, joining the White House Office of Presidential Correspondence in 2019 shortly after college. She rose to associate director before joining the communications team as an assistant press secretary.
After Trump’s first term ended in 2021, Leavitt became communications director for New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, then ran for Congress in New Hampshire, unsuccessfully challenging Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas in 2022. She later served as Trump’s national press secretary during his 2024 campaign, which ultimately led to her appointment as White House press secretary in January.
Trump’s most recent comments came the same day he repeatedly described Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as “beautiful” while addressing attendees at the Gaza summit in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
“Where is she … there she is,” Trump said upon spotting Meloni on stage. “You don’t mind being called beautiful, right? You are.”
