Kate Middleton and Prince William have officially moved into their new permanent residence — Forest Lodge in Windsor — with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, according to The Telegraph. The family reportedly relocated during the school half-term and are now settling into the new home.

Plans for the move were first revealed in August, when a Kensington Palace spokesperson confirmed that the Wales family would relocate later in the year.

A Thoughtful Move to Windsor

Three years ago, the couple transitioned from Kensington Palace in London to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor as a trial run to see if the area suited their lifestyle. Their children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 — began attending the nearby Lambrook School, a location that allows William and Kate to balance their royal duties with family life.

Speaking during the Irish Guards’ St. Patrick’s Day parade in March, Princess Kate explained, “We are in Windsor at the moment. We were in London but moved there for more green space. It’s close enough to London, not too far away.”

The move also places the family near Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, who are actively involved as grandparents.

A Fresh Chapter After Challenging Years

Forest Lodge marks a new beginning after a series of difficult years. Shortly after the family’s move to Adelaide Cottage, they mourned the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, when King Charles ascended the throne and Prince William became the heir apparent.

In 2024, both the King and Princess Kate were diagnosed with cancer. While King Charles continues his treatment, the Princess shared in January that she is now in remission.

Forest Lodge, which sits within Windsor Great Park, is expected to be the family’s long-term residence — a home they intend to keep even when William becomes king.

A Historic Georgian Home

Located just four miles from Adelaide Cottage, Forest Lodge offers more space with eight bedrooms compared to their previous four. The Georgian mansion, originally built in the 1770s, was acquired by the Crown Estate in 1829. The Deputy Ranger of Windsor Great Park occupied it until the 1930s. In the 1970s, there were even rumors that Princess Anne and her then-husband, Mark Phillips, might move in, though the plans never materialized.

The Grade II-listed property features original stonework, ornate plaster cornices, marble fireplaces, Venetian windows, and a vaulted hallway ceiling. Valued at approximately £5.5 million, it underwent a £1.5 million restoration to preserve its period details.

Despite the grandeur, William and Kate reportedly continue to live without live-in staff. Their longtime nanny, Maria Turrion Borrallo, and household staff are expected to remain in smaller properties on the estate.

Security and Local Impact

The family’s move prompted tighter security measures around the residence. According to The Times, a 2.3-mile restricted perimeter was established, limiting public access to parts of Windsor Great Park. Locals who previously paid around $150 per year to use the Cranbourne Gate entrance and nearby parking areas have been affected by the change.

One resident told The Sun, “Many of us have been walking our dogs here for 20 years, so to be told we can’t anymore is a kick in the teeth. We pay annually towards the upkeep of the park but are no longer allowed to use part of it.”

Another local, Tom Bunn, expressed understanding despite his disappointment. “It’s disappointing as my dog loves it here,” he said. “But I completely understand that the safety of William, Kate, and their family is paramount, so we should make sure they can live happily here.”
