After spending six months nurturing her garden, one woman was devastated to find nearly all her hard work gone — harvested without her consent.
On Reddit, she shared that she had poured months of effort into “planting it, watering it, taking care of it, [and] watching it grow,” describing the project as “something successful I built and poured into so much that my mom helped me expand and plant it in the ground.”
But when she returned home, she discovered that most of her garden had been cleared out.
“I come home today at the end of the growing season to see it basically bagged up and wiped out,” she wrote. “My drama-loving aunt who I stay away from is visiting from the city and decided to harvest about 75% of it without asking.”
What made the situation worse was her mother’s inaction. “Didn’t stop her. Didn’t text or warn me. Just let it happen,” she explained, adding that her mom may have even “encouraged it.”
The aunt, she said, later bragged about taking the produce to give away to neighbors — as if it were her own.

Feeling “beyond disappointed” and drained, the woman said she’s “just done with this level of ignorance.” She added, “I don’t even care to say anything because I’m so shocked and annoyed at the lack of care for my feelings and my hard work. I won’t waste my time teaching grown adults basic respect.”
Commenters were quick to express support and outrage on her behalf.
One person wrote, “I have no advice on helping you move past — I just want you to get your stuff back. I feel absolutely defeated for you. That produce is beautiful and looks like it took so much work.”
Another added, “It’s okay to tell her you’re disappointed. Not because she’ll change, but for yourself. It’s okay to stand up for yourself appropriately.”
