Seth Meyers Responds to Being on Donald Trump’s ‘S— List’ amid Continued Demands for His Firing: ‘Doesn’t Make Me Special’

Seth Meyers is fully embracing his new status as one of President Donald Trump’s favorite targets.

During his monologue on the Monday, Nov. 17 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host responded to a Truth Social post Trump, 79, shared on Saturday, Nov. 15. In it, Trump claimed Meyers is “suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)” and said the comedian “was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage.”

Trump also described Late Night as a “ratings disaster,” declared that Meyers has “no talent,” and insisted that NBC “should fire him.”

Meyers, 51, took the criticism in stride and got delightfully nitpicky, zeroing in on the “passive voice” in Trump’s post and then revealing an extra layer of absurdity: the episode Trump watched on Friday, Nov. 14 — the one that prompted the rant — was actually a rerun. It was the same episode Trump had already complained about earlier in the month, when he called Meyers a “truly deranged lunatic” and suggested the host’s critiques were “probably illegal.”

The bit that seemed to particularly bother Trump both times? Meyers’ jokes about “electric catapults on aircraft carriers.”

“So catapults set him off last time. What was it this time?” Meyers asked. “Well, he posted on Saturday and referred to last night, which means it was probably something I said on Friday, but our Friday show was a repeat. Which repeat? The catapult show. So it was the catapults again.”

“And with respect, Mr. President, you can’t get mad a second time for the same thing when it’s in a repeat,” he added.

Meyers then pointed out that he wasn’t exactly alone in being singled out by Trump over the weekend.

“I’m also aware that being attacked this weekend by the president doesn’t make me special in any way, shape or form,” he said. “I was simply on the same s— list as Christopher Wray, James Comey, Indiana Republicans, Thomas Massie, Rand Paul, Marjorie Taylor Greene and former President Joe Biden.”

Even so, Meyers said he doesn’t object to Trump airing his grievances about the show. “I wanna clarify that I take no issue with the president voicing his displeasure with my show,” he continued. “That is his right and, on a lot of nights, he’s got a point.”

Trump’s Saturday post was also circulated by FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who shared a screenshot of the statement on X without adding his own commentary. Carr’s involvement stood out, given that he had previously signaled a willingness to consider penalties for other late-night programs after Jimmy Kimmel Live! was suspended in September and pulled off the air for six days.

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead,” Carr, 46, said on Benny Johnson’s podcast at the time of Kimmel’s suspension.

After Trump’s earlier post this month calling him out by name, Meyers joked in a monologue that the situation was starting to take a toll on his own tone.

He admitted he was “starting to sound like a deranged lunatic” while reacting to Trump’s commentary. “That’s what you do to us,” Meyers said, addressing Trump. “You make us talk about what you’re talking about, and then we all sound crazy.”
