A teenage girl has died after falling from the Chapin School in New York City.

On Wednesday, Dec. 17, police responded to a 911 call at the school, located at 100 East End Avenue, according to the New York Police Department.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a 14-year-old female at the above location with injuries indicative of falling from an elevated position. EMS responded and transported the female to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased,” an NYPD spokesperson said in a statement.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. The student’s identity has not been released pending notification of her family.

The Chapin School — founded in 1901 by Maria Chapin Bowen — is an all-girls school serving students from kindergarten through 12th grade, according to its official website. The school reports an enrollment of about 830 students from across New York City, Long Island, Westchester County, Connecticut, and New Jersey.

The school’s listed tuition and fees total $68,250, with additional estimated costs including a $2,000 laptop fee and $100 in Parents’ Association dues.

The girl’s death comes a little more than a month after a similar incident at another private school in Manhattan. On Nov. 13 at Regis High School, an all-boys school, police reported they “observed a 16-year-old male with injuries indicative of falling from an elevated position.” He was also taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.
