A Texas woman arrested after her boyfriend was found fatally shot allegedly handed investigators a video she said would prove she didn’t do it — but authorities claim it instead strengthened their case.

Deputies responding to a report of a shooting at a Bexar County, Texas, home on Wednesday, Dec. 24, found a 42-year-old man unresponsive, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said during a press briefing. Despite attempts at life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities arrested 36-year-old Courtney Renee Hooper in connection with his death. The man’s identity has not been publicly released.

Investigators said the couple, who were dating, began arguing over a cell phone and a car, and that the dispute “escalated to the point of shooting,” the sheriff said at Wednesday’s press conference.

Hooper allegedly provided law enforcement with a video she claimed would “exonerate” her, according to the sheriff. Instead, he said, it raised more concerns.

“In reality, after watching that video, it just seemed like that made her seem even more guilty,” he alleged, adding that it appeared to show part of the disturbance leading up to the killing.

Authorities also said children were inside the home at the time of the shooting, though they did not release their ages or explain how they were related to the victim or Hooper.

The sheriff said deputies have previously been called to the residence multiple times for alleged domestic-related disturbances.

Hooper has been charged with first-degree murder, according to online court records. A judge set her bond at $150,000. Attorney information was not listed in available records.
