A 32-year-old Florida inmate has been sentenced to federal prison time after authorities said he threatened to kill President Donald Trump in a handwritten letter declaring Trump “must perish” and promising what he called the “greatest” and “most daring Presidential assassination” in U.S. history.
U.S. District Judge Sheri P. Chappell on Monday ordered Christopher M. Davies to serve 27 months in a federal correctional facility. Davies pleaded guilty in October 2025 to one count of making threats against the president of the United States, according to an announcement from the Justice Department.
Davies, who was previously convicted of felony robbery, is currently serving a state sentence at the Charlotte Correctional Institute in Punta Gorda, Florida — about 150 miles northwest of Miami. Officials said he is scheduled to be released from state custody in June 2032, at which point he will begin serving the federal sentence.
According to court documents, the case began on March 11, 2025, when a senior clerk at the prison reviewed inmate mail and opened a request letter allegedly written by Davies. The letter contained a string of threatening statements, including claims that he had “connections with Islamic Terror Cells” affiliated with ISIS and that he had “orchestrated” an assassination plan. In the letter, Davies wrote that Trump “must perish,” that the nation should be “brought low,” and that the pillars of “Democracy” should “crumble,” adding: “All you have to do is watch.”
Later the same day, prosecutors said, Davies wrote a second statement doubling down on the earlier message, calling it “true and factual” and telling readers to “wait and see what unfolds.”
The threats were forwarded to the U.S. Secret Service for investigation.
Agents interviewed Davies at the prison on April 16, 2025. After being advised of his rights, he agreed to speak, prosecutors said. During the interview, Davies allegedly confirmed he wrote the statements, understood what they meant, and said they should be treated “as a true threat.”
Prosecutors wrote that when agents asked why he wrote the message, Davies replied that “you would have to watch.” Agents then asked what he would do if Trump were sitting near him, and Davies allegedly said he would try to kill the president “with his bare hands.”
