Miranda Lambert is mourning the loss of her beloved chihuahua, Cher, who stayed by her side for 15 years.

On Sunday, Dec. 28, the country singer, 42, shared a heartfelt Instagram tribute featuring photos and videos of herself with Cher across the years. Lambert wrote that the dog died the day before.

“Our sweet bear Cher crossed over the rainbow bridge yesterday,” Lambert captioned the post. “Cher gave us 15 years of love and all the chihuahua attitude and energy she had to give. And if you have ever had a chi chi you know what I mean.”

Lambert remembered adopting Cher from a rescue shelter in 2010, when the pup was just 10 weeks old. She recalled tucking the tiny dog into the pockets of her overalls and quickly making her a constant presence in her life.

Not long after, Lambert began bringing Cher to events — including the 2010 Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, where she even coordinated her outfit with the dog. From there, Cher became a regular on the road, traveling with Lambert on tours year after year.

“Thank you to her sweet soul for all the road miles she traveled,” Lambert wrote, adding that she had nine rescue dogs when she and Brendan McLoughlin met seven years ago.

Lambert and McLoughlin, who privately tied the knot in January 2019, now have one rescue dog remaining. In her Instagram post, she also included a playful clip of herself doing a pushup with Cher perched on her back, along with moments of Cher interacting with other dogs.

“We sure are ready for a break from the heartbreak y’all, but they are worth every tear we have cried,” Lambert added. “Animals bring so much joy but I sure do wish dog years didn’t go by so fast. Rescue’s forever ❤️.”

She closed the tribute with a photo of Cher alongside her rescue retriever mix, Bellamy, whom she adopted in 2013.

Last month, Lambert also shared that two of her miniature horses, Sugar Pie and Adrianna, died on the same day. Posting photos with them, she reflected on the emotional highs and lows of loving animals.

“The best part about being an animal mom is the joy. The worst part is when the time comes to say goodbye,” she wrote, adding, “Godspeed little bitty’s. I know you are both in greener pastures as I type this. I’ll see y’all again one day. Big love 🩵🐴🐴🥲💔.”
