A mischievous squirrel once scampered straight into the spotlight during a wedding photo shoot, creating a moment so perfectly timed it looks like a tiny forest protest.

With its arms stretched wide in the foreground—almost as if shouting, “I object!”—the squirrel hilariously photobombed a newlywed couple during a post-ceremony session atop the Sulphur Skyline Trail in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. Although the photo was taken several years ago, photographers Marcin and Dorota of BDFK Photography still can’t resist resharing the unforgettable image on social media.

Most recently, the husband-and-wife duo reposted the photo on Instagram on Dec. 7, 2025, joking, “When you try to take a romantic mountain photo and the local celebrity demands the spotlight. 😂🐿️📸 Your turn… caption this!😊.”

What looks like a spontaneous wildlife interruption was actually the result of careful planning and a lot of patience. According to the photographers, the shot took about 15 minutes to capture. When they reached the ideal location with the newlyweds, Kelsey and Brenden, they noticed several squirrels darting around the area and realized the setting had unexpected potential.

“The idea was to make the squirrel the main subject, with the couple softly in the background,” Marcin explains. To get the right perspective, he lay flat on the ground with the camera while Dorota stood just above him, making subtle sounds to coax the squirrel closer to the lens.

They waited quietly as the squirrel moved about, snapping multiple frames, while asking the couple to remain perfectly still behind them. Everyone involved had to be extremely patient to avoid startling the animals.

“Kelsey and Brenden held the same position for nearly 15 minutes, trusting us completely—even though it wasn’t the most comfortable situation,” Marcin and Dorota recall. “Their patience and trust made the photo possible, and they absolutely loved the result.”

When the image was first shared online, viewers were instantly charmed by the unexpected wedding guest. Since then, the photographers have reposted it several times, noting that people continue to enjoy it and invent clever captions. Some favorites include: “Marriage commissioner,” “Keep it moving, nothing to see here,” “Brothers and sisters, we are gathered here today,” and “Kids, look away — they’re about to kiss.”

“That playful response is exactly why this image still resonates,” the photographers say.
