Heightened immigration enforcement actions by federal authorities have led to the cancellation or postponement of numerous Fourth of July events across Southern California, particularly in areas with large immigrant and Hispanic populations. Many organizers have cited safety concerns stemming from recent ICE activity in their communities.

Here’s a look at the major July 4 celebrations affected:

Gloria Molina Grand Park’s Summer Block Party – Postponed

The popular event in Downtown Los Angeles, originally set for July 4 from 4 PM to 9:30 PM, has been postponed. According to the event’s official website, the decision was made “in light of recent events affecting a portion of Downtown LA.” Organizers are working to reschedule and promise updates in the coming weeks.

City of Cudahy – Postponed

City officials in Cudahy, a predominantly Hispanic community, announced the postponement of their July 3 Independence Day celebration, citing safety concerns related to increased immigration enforcement. City parks will remain open and regular programming will continue.

Bell Gardens – Events Canceled

Just outside Cudahy, Bell Gardens has canceled a concert and two movie nights that were scheduled between June 24 and July 10. Officials said the cancellations were made “out of an abundance of caution” due to ongoing federal immigration activity. Other programs, including summer day camps and sports, will proceed as normal.

Huntington Park – Canceled

The city has canceled its planned July 3 celebration. No official reason was given, but the decision follows similar cancellations across neighboring communities.

El Sereno – Canceled

In El Sereno, another largely Hispanic neighborhood, officials called off the annual July 4 parade and celebration. The El Sereno Bicentennial Committee expressed regret in a statement:

“Our parade typically features over 1,200 participants—people who deeply believe in the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. But this year, safety must come first. We stand with our community.”

LA City Council District 14 – Events Canceled or Delayed

All Independence Day events in Council District 14, which includes parts of East Los Angeles, have either been canceled or postponed, according to a spokesperson for Councilmember Ysabel Jurado.

East LA resident Jordan Escobar spoke to KTLA 5, saying:

“I have family and friends who are directly impacted. I understand why people aren’t in the mood to celebrate. It’s important we make our voices heard.”

Pasadena’s Rose Bowl – Still On, With Changes

The Rose Bowl’s annual celebration will still take place, but in a nod to safety and environmental concerns, traditional fireworks will be replaced with a drone light show.

As ICE operations continue across the region, many community leaders are choosing caution and solidarity over celebration this Independence Day.
