The owners of a recently purchased home in Houston got an unexpected — and alarming — surprise inside their new residence.
Authorities said dispatchers received a call on Saturday, Jan. 10, after the homeowners reported finding suspected explosives inside a home in the 7400 block of John Ralston Road.
Deputies responded to the property, where the homeowners showed them ammunition and other firearm-related items, including what appeared to be grenades and improvised explosive devices. Officials then contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad.

Bomb technicians examined the items, confirmed they were live, and removed them from the home.
Officials praised the homeowners for handling the situation carefully, noting that their caution helped prevent what could have become a dangerous incident for both them and nearby residents. They also credited deputies and the bomb squad for responding quickly and safely.
Investigators later determined that the home’s previous owner was a deceased World War II veteran. The homeowners reportedly discovered the ammunition while clearing out the former owner’s belongings.

No one was injured, and authorities said the case has now been closed.
A similar incident drew attention last year in Northwest Harris County, when a suspected hand grenade was found at a home near Tomball Parkway during a cleaning. Bomb experts retrieved the object and planned to dispose of it at a bomb range, according to local reporting.
