A Reddit post has ignited alarm and disbelief online after a user claimed their 3-year-old nephew received an official “Notice of Termination of Parole” from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The user initially questioned the letter’s authenticity—but others quickly warned it was likely genuine and urged the family to seek legal help immediately.

“This letter seems fake. I don’t know what to do,” the Reddit user wrote, attaching an image of the document dated June 20, 2025, which was addressed to the toddler.

The letter begins with “Name of the alien…” and delivers a blunt message: “It is time for you to leave the United States.” It goes on to instruct the recipient to “self-deport” and outlines potential penalties for failing to comply.

Community Reactions: “Sadly, this is real”

The post quickly gained traction on Reddit, prompting hundreds of comments—many from users claiming experience with immigration law and similar notices. The consensus: the letter is likely authentic, despite the recipient’s age.

“Yeah, it’s not fake. The letterhead ink colours are correct,” one user wrote. “I’d consult an immigration attorney or—if the child is a U.S. citizen—get a family lawyer to send a formal response to DHS.”

Another user added,

“I’ve seen these before. It’s more of a notice explaining what you’re expected to do before ICE knocks. Unfortunately, this is not unusual.”

One particularly emotional response blamed the current political climate:

“This is the reality under Trump. He’s targeting people who follow the rules—or are too young to even understand them. A child under parole? This is disgusting. Please get a lawyer immediately. Godspeed.”

Others noted the letter’s amateurish appearance but warned that doesn’t mean it’s not real:

“It looks sloppy, but sadly, that’s par for the course. It’s 100% real.”

Context: Children in Deportation Proceedings

Although rare, children—including toddlers—can receive immigration notices in their name if they are under parole or part of an asylum process. In many cases, legal guardians are responsible for responding on their behalf.

Immigration experts stress the urgency of consulting a qualified attorney in these situations, especially when minors are involved. Notices like this are not automatically deportation orders but serve as a formal step in the legal process that can lead to removal if not contested.

What Now?

If verified, the incident adds to a growing number of disturbing stories emerging under President Trump’s immigration policies, which have drawn criticism for targeting vulnerable populations, including children.

Legal experts urge anyone receiving similar documents—regardless of age—to immediately consult an immigration attorney. Even seemingly absurd cases, like that of a 3-year-old, can result in serious consequences if ignored.
